A bridge between past and future, between culture and innovation
In the heart of Storo, among the mountains of the Giudicarie valleys, stands a place where memory comes alive and becomes experience: Mediateca dei Popoli. Opened on 16 December 2022, the Mediateca was founded as a cultural project of the Movimento Nazionale per i Diritti Umani (Mo.Na.D.U.) with the ambition of bringing together history and innovation, technology and civic commitment.
Here the past is not merely preserved but told, through 3D headsets, documentaries, immersive exhibitions, multimedia content and educational programmes. Every project is designed to bring the public - and young people above all - closer to crucial themes such as migration, conflict, human rights and the culture of peace. Dynamic and multilingual, the space is conceived as a square of shared knowledge, where the stories of individual people become a collective heritage and a spur to dialogue.
Alongside free access to its digital materials, the Mediateca runs cultural and educational activities: workshops, film clubs, events, meetings with authors, teaching programmes for schools and initiatives for families. Every activity springs from the same wish: to help cultures meet, to bring value to the local area and to nurture an active, informed citizenship.
Through a network of partnerships with institutions, cultural associations and local organisations, Mediateca dei Popoli has become a permanent cultural presence: rooted in the present, with its eyes on the future.
Defending rights, building the future.
Founded in 2009 in Potenza, the Movimento Nazionale per i Diritti Umani is an association committed to promoting a culture of rights, peace and solidarity. From its origins in child protection, Mo.Na.D.U. has broadened its work nationwide, creating projects for young people, for women, for social issues and for civic memory.
Through educational campaigns, training activities and cultural initiatives, the Movement pursues a clear vision: culture can change society. That is why it organises conferences, workshops, school projects and action on the ground, weaving together history, participation and rights.
Mo.Na.D.U. is also the driving spirit behind the Mediateca dei Popoli project, where memory becomes experience and awareness takes shape. The Mediateca is the concrete expression of that vision: a living space in which the movement's mission takes visual, educational and human form. A place where every visit becomes an act of awareness, a step towards a fairer, more inclusive and more peaceful world.
