The Trenches of Bezzecca: Voices from the Front

An immersive journey into the memory of the front.

An experience of sight and sound that crosses the trenches of Bezzecca, where the mountains of Trentino tell stories of war and of humanity. With the virtual reality film The Trenches of Bezzecca: Voices from the Front, you will be immersed in a landscape marked by tunnels cut into the rock, forgotten military posts and silences that speak. A double narrative weaving together the voices of the First World War and the echo of Garibaldi's battle of 1866, sealed by the famous “Obbedisco” (“I obey”) spoken by Giuseppe Garibaldi.

Accompanying the journey, an original poem by the Trentino writer Virginia Grassi, which gives the landscape a voice and returns feeling to these places. The images become verse, the verse becomes footsteps.

The experience is available exclusively at Mediateca dei Popoli in Storo, by booking.

Where it all happened

The historic trenches of Bezzecca

Set among woods, rocks and military paths, the Bezzecca front is an open-air museum. The footage moves along communication trenches, posts carved into the stone and lookouts facing the horizon.

Here, during the First World War, the mountain was the stage of resistance and daily sacrifice.

Garibaldi's positions of 1866

But the story of Bezzecca begins earlier. In July 1866, at the height of the Third War of Independence, Giuseppe Garibaldi and his Cacciatori delle Alpi fought on these very ridges.

The battle left a deep mark on the landscape and on memory, making this place a symbol of national unity and of the tenacity of a people.

Notice on the use of the VR headset

Wearing the headset is generally well tolerated. In rare cases, particularly sensitive people may feel slight nausea or dizziness in the first few moments. The effect is temporary and harmless, and passes quickly once you have adjusted.

Throughout the VR experience, the narration is interwoven with Virginia Grassi's poetry. Her words, braided with ambient sound and the voices of the past, guide the viewer into an intimate, searching reflection, turning the walk among the trenches into an emotional journey.
